This annual 2-day NOSA Gun Show took place at the Oliver Paipoonge Township Community Centre, 4569 Oliver Road, Murillo, Ontario.
There were Club Displays and the opportunity for the public to buy, sell, or trade: Guns, Knives, Ammunition, Collectors' Cartridges, Reloading Supplies, Optics, and Accessories. There was also an interesting educational display by the Northwestern Ontario Aviation Heritage Centre.
The show provided some of the annual funding for our NOSA Junior Shooters program, as well as promoted the club and safe shooting sports to the general public. Admission was $3.00 each day, with children under 12 free. 570 adult members of the public attended and bought a lot of good stuff. (You can never have too much good stuff ;-)
Daily timings were:
Friday 9 March -- 4:30 p.m. NOSA volunteers helped set-up tables and equipment.
Friday 9 March -- 5:30 p.m. exhibitors arrived and were helped to set up. (There was security present over both nights.)
Saturday 10 March -- 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. open to the public.
Sunday 11 March -- 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. open to the public.
Sunday 11 March -- 3:00 p.m. NOSA volunteers helped exhibitors pack up.
NOSA Volunteers. We gratefully acknowledge the many hours of work contributed by our NOSA volunteers over three days towards making this show a great success. The overall show was organized and directed by our most capable Glenn H. with booking assistance from Gerry K. Volunteers at the show with Glenn included Trapper-John A., Steve B., Wray C., Dana C., Adam G., Larry P., John S., Wayne S., and Dave T. They helped set up and pack away tables and several tons of exhibitors' equipment, staff the admission desk, clean, and do any task needed. A very important and tasty food concession was also on site and it was most capably run by our own Bob M. with volunteers Don K., Tony M., and Warren W., with Dan G.'s assistance; these folks worked here and everywhere else as needed. Our Juniors doing a fine job staffing the club table included Cassidy J., Jarrett J., Aryanna M., and Kaleb M. [If I missed anyone's name, please let me know.]
We also sincerely thank the many other members of NOSA and the public who attended and paid entry towards helping to fund the club's Junior Shooters program.
This was the first major club event of 2012 and Banacek took some candid pix. And it is a glorious but simple fact that both the enhibitors and volunteers had a great deal of fun at this event, and got to renew old friendships and start a few new ones. Happily there were lots of sales and good fellowship.
New Location. NOSA's Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at 1:00 p.m. at the Labour Centre at 929 Fort William Road (across the street from Intercity Mall). Refreshments were available.
The usual NOSA AGM topics like minutes from last year were passed. Under New Business, approval was given to purchase a new air rifle for the Junior Shooters program, and approval was also given (subject to funds available) to finish the roof at Nolalu Range this year. Considering the rising costs of maintenance to the owners of both our indoors and outdoors ranges, their rental fees will be higher in 2013; consequently it was approved that NOSA club dues in 2013 for Adult and Family Memberships will be raised an identical amount, somewhere between ten and twenty dollars (which is still a relative bargain); Junior Membership fees will be unchanged in 2013.
NOSA Club shoots and events in 2012 were discussed and many are now tentatively listed on the Upcoming Activities page at left. In some cases dates are not yet determined; be sure to check back regularly for confirmatory dates and details.
The Executive thanked the NOSA member volunteers for helping make our events successful, and particularly thanked the parents who help maintain the Junior Shooters program. We also presented plaques to Bill K. and Gerry K. in recognition of their tremendous support of this key program.

This final springtime indoor shoot was held on Friday 18 May starting just before 7:00 p.m. under the capable supervision of Trapper-John A. We thank John for his continuing efforts to keep these club shoots both smoothly run and memorable.

The spring to fall outdoor shooting schedule began at our Nolalu Range on Thursday 03 May and continued every week on NOSA Club Days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) until Sunday 28 October 2012 inclusive.
Photos taken during formal NOSA outdoor shoots are grouped with the particular event. We also receive the occasional picture from a Nolalu Range regular outdoor shooting day in 2012, and they will be found here.

Thursday 07 June. Gerry K. provided a picture of Trapper-John A. shooting Harry W.'s new Savage 110BA rifle in .338 Lapua. The factory muzzle brake apparently reduced felt recoil to about that of a .308 Winchester. The .338 Lapua ammunition also has a similar effect in reducing the felt thickness of your wallet ;-)
Thursday 14 June. Gerry K.'s phone captured a sequence of pictures showing Dave V. playing with his CZ Model 550 Tropical Magnum in .505 Gibbs for the very first time. Muzzle brakes may not be such a bad idea after all. Or fire extinguishers for that matter ;-)

This event was held from 09:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday 25 August at the Kakabeka Falls Legion in partnership between NOSA and GMK Armoury Specialties. This year, Gerry K. has officially turned over the event to NOSA and donated his portion of revenue to our Juniors Program. A kitchen and fine meals were run by Legion staff.
NOSA had an information display about our Club, and our activities promoting the shooting sports including our Junior Shooters Program. Adult visitors totalled 333, with many more youngsters accompanying them. The strong participation by youngsters bodes well for the future of this sport. There were quite a few families expressing interest in joining NOSA together.
It soon became apparent that sales were well up this year, and dealers and exhibitors were pleased with their results. We greatly appreciate their support in helping make our Juniors Program funding a success.
We also fully appreciate the NOSA volunteers who worked tirelessly on Friday and Saturday to set up and tear down tables and chairs and help exhibitors with their masses of equipment, and staff the entry and NOSA Club table, and help in any way needed. Of course they were again under the capable event leadership of Glenn H. and Gerry K. and Dan G. with further active participation by Trapper-John A., Dana C., Bob J., Bob M., Gord S., Rick J. (who ran a knife-sharpening table with all proceeds to the Juniors), Wayne S., Warren W., and Banacek -- who also took the pix here.
Last year Gord S. appeared in more pictures than anyone else present but that was not the case this time, with Dan G. probably in the lead. Carefully check the pix, including the background, for other persons present and keep score. If you make a scoring table, the pix here are numbered from 01 to 36. [No prizes, it is just a game for a rainy day.]

The Trappers' Association Shoot was held at the Nolalu range from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There were some very good prizes including a turkey for first place in each event. [And no, they did not shoot an actual turkey at the range, only paper targets.]
Trapper-John A. and Warren W. officiated over the actual shooting events, while members of the Trappers' Association and their spouses assisted with target sales and prize giving and the food table. Pix here by Banacek.
The weather cooperated with a magnificent day, and a truly fine time was had by all.
Events included:
Standing Rimfire Rifle, event with scope and event with iron sights;
Standing Centerfire Rifle -- smallest group at 100 meters;
Mystery (Bingo) Target;
Powderpuff Ladies' Rimfire -- any position;
Kids' Rimfire -- any position.

The fall to spring indoor shooting schedule began at Arnone Range:
Wednesday 12 September 2012 for the Junior Shooters, and
Friday 14 September 2012 for the Adult Members.
Junior Shooters have all non-holiday Wednesday evenings and Adults have all non-holiday Friday evenings until the end of April 2013. (There is sometimes an extension in May.) Timings are from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This service for the public was hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and NOSA.
Sighting-in took place from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m.
Despite weather forecasts for a pleasant sunny day, the sun was rarely seen until the event was nearly over. But a very chilly and persistent wind was present. Nevertheless, attendance by the public was strong and there were a lot of folks very happy with their shooting results.
Ross Johnston, Conservation Officer from M.N.R., was on site to answer any questions relating to hunting. Ross also pitched in to coach and help several hunters do their sight-ins. And he provided some very welcome refreshments for the volunteer staff on a cold and windy and mostly overcast day. Thank you Ross for your tremendous assistance towards making this event a great success.
And our thanks to a goodly number of NOSA volunteer members who were on site to run the 25M and 100M firing lines and assist individuals needing help with the actual sighting in process. They are mentioned in the picture captions below. Pix by Banacek.
Members of the public who shot paid $5.00 for use of the range. (The fee is used to cover the cost of shooting insurance for this day at the range.)
GMK Armoury Specialties in Thunder Bay (807-346-4088) had issued a coupon to cover the sight-in fee to anyone who purchased a firearm at GMK recently. Gerry K. was present for the complete event and assisted folks who had problems with rifle sights or equipment, and there were several who benefited from this free and very vital service. Thanks Gerry.
And a good day was had by all.

There was a Halloween Shoot for the Junior Shooters on Wednesday, 24 October, exactly one week before the actual holiday.
There were prizes and lots of goodies and everyone enjoyed the fun.
This shoot was for all NOSA club members, including Junior Shooters and began at 11:00 a.m with shooting events under the able direction of Trapper-John A. There was an excellent BBQ at lunch time thanks to Bob M.'s cooking, with food and beverages provided free by NOSA. Our thanks to the volunteers who helped run the various events., and to Bill K. and Tim M. and Cam D. for sharing some fine pix from this day.
This annual event is in appreciation of the volunteerism and support shown by all members, whether at special events or just in the day to day help provided to others.
This event in 2012 happened much later in October than the last couple of years, so it was colder but the forecast snow held off until later in the day.
Shooting events included rimfire and centerfire handguns and rifles.
Each shooting category and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place results follow:
25 M Bullseye .22 RF HG, Standing: Li Y., Bob J., Dana C.
25 M Bullseye CF HG, Standing: Dana C., Li Y., Dan G.
25 M Bullseye .22 RF Rifle: Bob J., Ron W., Bill K.

These first pix were thanks to Bill K.
And some more pix of the Nolalu Club Shoot thanks to Tim M.
And some more from Cam D., shown here as individual frames extracted from videos. In each of the first two pix you can see one expelled casing in the air. In the pic with John, there are two in the air. This toy has an appetite.

Early last year Wes W. was in the Canadian High Arctic. This year he went with Sue on a big game safari in Africa. Once again, thanks for sharing your fine pictures. For their great story and exciting details, see the Member Ramblings section.
And Wes returned this summer to Nunavut for a walrus hunt. For more details, again see the Member Ramblings section.
Thanks to Bob M. for providing some fine pix from his fall moose hunt, where he acquired a large 3 year old bull at 330 yards with his .338 Win Mag using a 225 grain Nosler Partition bullet in a handload.
Don M. was happy to provide pix of this year's deer hunt, and in his own words: "I finally found a grown-up one."
Roy R. set up a trail camera (in a secret location of course) before the hunting season and got more than 200 pictures, including a rarely seen Canada Lynx. We also received pix of Roy and his hunting buddy Daryl H. with a very fine buck.
Warren W. kindly provided a summer picture of Willy L.'s hunting camp (nicely outfitted with warehouse and sauna), before their successful fall deer hunt featuring Trapper-John A. and Willy in the accompanying pix.
