New Ontario Shooters Association (NOSA) 2022 Activities or Events and Pictures
Here find details of the shooting activities and related events at NOSA, the family-friendly Thunder Bay rifle and pistol shooting club. Events or subjects are in approximate date order (usually based on the earliest date if an activity is spread out).
Photos here are by Banacek unless otherwise attributed. This page is also intended to show some of our members' 2022 photos in club and related activities in and about Thunder Bay, Ontario -- or wherever our members travel for competitions or sport. Member photo contributions are much appreciated. And please be kind.
At the end of each calendar year, a particular year's activities and photos will still be available on its own NOSA page. For other years, see the top of the current Recent Activities webpage using the link at left.
Photos on these web pages are optimized for viewing at the low resolution of a computer monitor. If you wish to print particular photos, identify them in an email to the Webmaster, and he will email you a higher resolution version. If you have an objection to a particular image of yourself or your family member, send an email to the Webmaster and that image or the complete photo will be removed from the website.

Ontario Government Restrictions Due To COVID-19
2022 has also commenced with the continued uncertainty as to how the pandemic is progressing and how the Ontario Government consequently places various changing restrictions on the population (and our ability to target shoot on our ranges) from limiting the number of participants in buildings to a complete lock down where folks had to stay in their homes except when on essential tasks.
On 05 January 2022 a fourth wave of viral outbreaks in Ontario resulted in a new government lockdown and all NOSA shooting indoors at the Fish & Game Ranges was halted until further notice.
Indoor ranges were back in operation starting 31 January 2022; consequently Juniors recommenced effective Wednesday 02 February and Adults on Friday 04 February.

This fun shoot was followed by delicious pizzas.
Ladies' Night -- Friday 06 May 2022
NOSA paired up with our very own Jordan R. (The Outdoor Woman) in holding a ladies' night/competition on Friday 6 May from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There was no charge for this special event to give ladies and their children an opportunity to try the sport of safely shooting .22 rimfire rifles and hand guns -- under the direct supervision of Range Officers.
For this special event moms could bring their children ages 7 and up. There were prizes, snacks, and a whole lot of fun.
NOSA very much appreciates the strong turnout of member volunteers to assist these novice shooters in safely having fun. We also appreciate the support of organizations that provided prizes; their names were prominently displayed in the Club House.
NOSA Adult and Family Members' Outdoors Shooting at Nolalu
The NOSA Club Outdoor Shooting Range is known as the Nolalu Shooting Range or the JR Range. It was again in operation in 2022 for NOSA Club Days Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 05 May through the end of October, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. or darkness.
For detailed information and instructions regarding our Nolalu Range, or any other ranges we use, please read our Range Rules page -- link is in the column at left.
Kakabeka Falls Gun Show -- Saturday & Sunday, 27 & 28 August 2022
This annual now two-day event was held by NOSA. A fine kitchen was run by Legion staff. Details follow:
Location: Kakabeka Falls Legion on Highway 11/17 a couple of minutes East of that town, or 20 minutes West of Thunder Bay.
Show Hours for the Public:
09:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 27 August; and
09:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, 28 August.
Admission was: $5.00, and free for those under 12 when accompanied by an adult.
NOSA had an information display at the show about the NOSA Club, and our activities promoting the shooting sports including our Junior Shooters Program.
The show attendance was a bit lighter this year, but that was also true of many post-COVID activities. Nevertheless our vendors sold quite a bit of merchandise and the exhibitors had the opportunity to speak with many interested people.
NOSA thanks its many volunteers for their tireless work and we all had a lot of fun being there together again after the long hiatus of no gun shows in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID.

Some New Construction at F&G Range 10
The Fish and Game Range 10 is 200 yards long and has undergone significant improvements over the past couple of years. The building from where F&G Members shoot from benches has had a poured concrete floor added, walls enclosed, and then was insulated. On Monday 03 October I took these photos as Range Operator Larry E. and Benchrest Club President Byron R. were putting finishing touches on the new huge wooden baffles filled with pea gravel as mandated by our Ontario CFO. The intent of these baffles is to reduce the potential of errant shots going over the backstop bank where the target stands are located, and also the possibility of richocets off the ground in front of the targets. The third photo was taken from the middle #3 bench inside the building, with camera at rifle barrel sight height; this is that shooter's view of the two baffles and the white line of target stands visible in between them.
In 2023 NOSA Members who shoot at these F&G Ranges must also be full F&G Members and will have the opportunity 7 days per week to shoot properly on any range here that has not been booked by another club. (The F&G website has a calendar of range bookings.)

NOSA Members' Adventures and Hunts -- 2022
Every year we feature some of the members' photos of their recent outdoor adventures -- sometimes from their hunts, but mostly candid photos of wildlife and scenery that they have encountered and enjoyed while just observing through a camera lens. We're looking forward to seeing some new photos.
On 14 January a fine Timber Wolf crossed behind the house. Only seen for seconds a couple of times this year. They are very skittish.
In August, Patrick C. sighted in his sporterized Springfield rifle and went to South Africa for his third hunt there. On this page below are photos of two of the game he took. Much more about the rifle and several chapters detailing his adventures and showing many more photos can be found through his article My 2022 South African Hunt on the NOSA website's Member Ramblings page. A fascinating read.
On 21 September a Red Fox took a nap on our hill in the sunshine.
On 3 October, Wayne Sm. enjoyed this gorgeous sunset near his hill.
In October Brian W. sent proof of a successful grouse hunt: "That was the first day! Lots of birds."
Samantha reported that Jordan R's hunting adventure was successful this weekend; she got her limit. This was the first bird of the day! She was using a .22/.410 over/under.
On 20 October this young Whitetail Buck was cropping my lawn. (Yes he's still okay and is a regular visitor.) The next day some Cedar Waxwings dropped by to rest during their migration south.
In 2022 Healey G. has again proven to be a very successful hunter and is shown here with two fine Whitetail Deer.
Wayne Sm. observed this fluffed up cold Grey Jay on Christmas Day, and some very cold snow drifts along his hillside driveway.
